Kingston Care Home have raised over £200 for Princess Alice Hospice at its Open Gardens fundraiser for the charity which was open to residents, relatives, team members and the local community.
The event came about after Princess Alice Hospice invited the Kingston team to take part in its Open Gardens scheme, which sees gardens across the community opened to visitors in support of the hospice.
After learning more about the charity and the care it provides, the team decided to get involved. The connection became even more meaningful when relatives at the home shared that friends of theirs had previously received support from Princess Alice Hospice.
Residents played an active role in preparing for the fundraiser, including painting plant pots during art sessions to sell on the day. One resident also spent her own time making greeting cards for the stall.
Kingston Care Home had homemade ‘garden bakes’, mini games and a craft stall featuring handmade pieces created by members of the team, with visitors able to browse and buy while spending time in the home’s garden.
Funds raised will support Princess Alice Hospice in providing free palliative and end-of-life care, alongside support for families and carers.
Alex Teixeira, Home Manager at Kingston Care Home, said:
“This was our first fundraiser for Princess Alice Hospice, and it was fantastic to see everybody getting behind it.”
“What made it particularly special was how involved our residents were in preparing for the day. From painting pots to making cards, they weren’t simply attending the fundraiser, they were helping to make it happen. We’re very proud to have raised around £220 and grateful to everyone who supported us.”
The team at Kingston Care Home hopes the fundraiser will be the beginning of an ongoing relationship with Princess Alice Hospice and has thanked everyone who baked, crafted, donated, organised or came along to support the event.
